Who Is This Workshop For?

This workshop is designed for:

  • Occupational therapy practitioners looking to create their own customized therapy worksheets and activities.
  • Pediatric OTs who want to create engaging, visually appealing resources for their clients.
  • OTs who regularly create parent education handouts, visual supports, and home exercise programs.
  • OT students interested in developing their digital design skills.
  • Beginners who have never used Canva or have only basic experience.
  • Therapists who already use Canva but want to expand their design skills and learn more efficient ways to create resources.

You do NOT need to be an experienced Canva user to participate!

I’ll briefly cover Canva basics before moving into more advanced editing and design techniques. Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to improve your existing skills, you’ll have opportunities to follow along.

What You’ll Need to Participate

This is a hands-on workshop! I’ll be sharing my screen and demonstrating how to create and edit resources in Canva LIVE, so you’ll have the opportunity to follow along and practice as we go.

Please come prepared with:

1. A Laptop or Desktop Computer (Required)

A computer is strongly recommended so you can follow along with the Canva demonstrations and practice creating your own designs.

2. A Canva Account (Required)

A free Canva account is acceptable! However, I recommend having a Canva Pro account if you have access to one.

Some demonstrations may use Canva Pro features, but I’ll do my best to show alternative ways to accomplish the same tasks using a free account whenever possible.

3. Two Screens or Devices (Strongly Recommended)

Want to make following along easier? I highly recommend having two screens available!

For example:

  • Screen 1: Watch the live Zoom demonstration.
  • Screen 2: Open Canva on your laptop or desktop to follow along and practice.

You can accomplish this by using two monitors, or by joining Zoom on a tablet or phone while using Canva on your computer.

Only have one screen? No worries! You can still participate by switching between your Zoom meeting and Canva browser window.

4. A Stable Internet Connection

Make sure you have a reliable internet connection so you can comfortably participate in the live demonstrations.

5. A Mouse (Recommended)

Using a mouse can make editing, selecting elements, and navigating Canva a little easier than using a trackpad.

Do I Need to Know How to Use Canva Before Attending?

Not at all! This workshop is designed for beginners and those with some existing Canva experience.

I’ll briefly review the basics of Canva navigation and tools before moving into the more practical design demonstrations.

If you’d like to prepare ahead of time, I recommend creating a free Canva account and spending a little time exploring the dashboard. However, this is not required!

Why Should You Join?

As occupational therapists, we spend so much time searching for the perfect worksheet, purchasing digital downloads, and adapting resources that don’t always meet our clients’ needs.

What if you could create your own?

Learning how to use Canva effectively can help you:

  • Save time searching for and purchasing premade therapy resources.
  • Customize worksheets and activities to better fit your clients’ needs.
  • Create professional-looking parent education materials.
  • Develop a reusable library of your own therapy resources.
  • Build confidence in designing and editing your own materials.

My goal is to help you walk away with practical skills you can continue using long after the workshop ends!
