There is a stigma that entering the home health setting as an occupational therapy practitioner comes with many challenges that are not worth the struggle or pay. But I am here to tell you that working in the home health setting has many pros and advantages compared to a traditional work setting such as a hospital or clinic.
As a new grad OT, I was deterred from entering the home health setting as my professors warned that it would be very difficult for a new grad due to limited mentorship and handling other things like scheduling, patient communications, and documentation outside of regular work hours. However, I have been in the home health setting for four years now and can reflect upon my journey as a home health therapist to empower other new grads or those wishing to transition into home health.
So how do you know if home health occupational therapy is right for you?
